Gunnar Havstad

GUNNAR HAVSTAD (1901 - 1973) was a Norwegian sculptor, author and tinsmith who received his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm with Carl Milles, professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Havstad founded his namesake studio Havstad in 1928 in Nesodden, Norway. With just a dozen employees to create the designs, the factory went on to become the oldest pewter factory in Norway. Gunnar Havstad became known for having renewed the form expression in pewter and tin who was not afraid to mix pewter, tin with wood, brass and leather. Gunnar's son Sveinung Havstad took over the running of the company in the same workshop that was built in 1928.
